This chapter presents the availability of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) and P dynamics in Tonle Sap Lake (TSL) in relation to flood pulse. The nutrient concentrations in TSL generally peak during the low-water period and gradually decreasing as the water depth increases with annual hysteresis in response to water level. The observation in 1995–2010 at Kampong Luong reveals that total P (TP) concentration ranges greatly from 1 to 990 μg/L (average 95 μg/L), dissolved inorganic N from 13 to 3144 μg/L (297 μg/L), nitrate + nitrite from 1 to 2100 μg/L (210 μg/L), and ammonium from 4 to 350 μg/L (84 μg/L). The ratio of dissolved inorganic nitrogen to dissolved inorganic phosphorus (molar basis) ranged from 0.4 to 4730 (average 129), and 88% of the data were higher than the Redfield ratio, indicating P limitation in most of the time in TSL. Sedimentary TP content in TSL ranged from 497 to 1481 mg/kg-dry mass, with inorganic P as its major fraction (average 66%). The annual influx of TP to TSL and outflux from TSL via Tonle Sap River were estimated to be 6428 ton/year and 3025 ton/year, respectively, in average between 1998 and 2003. The mass balance implies the retention of TP in the lake being approximately 3305 ton/year (54% of the influx).
