Abstract

This review gives a detailed highlight on the preparation of heterogeneous Ce-based catalysts and their applications in the construction of various heterocylic frameworks. These nanostructured materials with their own outstanding properties of low price, safety, easy handling and recyclability appear to be excellent catalyst candidates in promoting the synthesis and functionalization of diversified heterocycles under “green chemistry” condition. Besides, the utility of nanoceria in the eco-friendly fixation of carbon dioxide towards cyclic ureas, cyclic carbonates and oxazolinones is also described. Finally, the crucial role of these well-defined cerium-based nanocatalysts in such transformations is also delineated though the reaction mechanism.
