Abstract

Teacher motivation, autonomy and development in the L2 contexts have tended to be addressed separately, and yet, there is certainly a research trend to treat these issues comprehensively, looking at them as an interwoven phenomena. To better understand the research areas in this volume, this introductory chapter provides background information about the regional diversity of L2 educational context in East Asia (i.e., Japan, China, and South Korea).
