Abstract

In this chapter, the punch edge profile is controlled to precisely describe the punching process of electrical steel sheets on the basis of multi-physical materials evaluation. The punch edge sharping and punch side-surface micro-/nano-texturing is essential to lower the inner straining, to suppress the microstructure distortion and to reduce the iron loss. In the following, new piercing process is reconsidered from three aspects. First, the effect of edge profile control on the piercing process is considered to understand the physical model of punch edge as a measure for high qualification in piercing. In second, let us consider the physical model on the micro- and nano-textures on the punch side surface in piercing. Finally, let us reconsider the role of lubrication in the mass production of motor cores through the continuous piercing process.
