N2 - In this paper, a method for designing a circular phased array 4 × 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with improved channel capacity is presented. The radius of the circular phased array and the length of the parasitic element are optimized in a unified manner using an existing method. The 4×4 MIMO channel capacity of the proposed antenna is analyzed as a function of the radius a. The results show that the optimum length of the parasitic element reduces with increasing the radius of the circular phased array. Based on this consideration, it is clarified that the channel capacity increases by 1.4 bits/s/Hz when a = 7 cm, compared to the case where a = 4.9 cm.
