Research biography
Graduate of Tokyo Institute of Technology, accomplished professional carrier in contemporary architectural design, including the practice of OMA Rem Koolhaas, Architecture Studio Daniel Libeskind, Toyo Ito Architects, and CIE. Long and sustainable teaching and research experiences in Universities and Post Doctoral research institutes such as Delft University of Technology, Berlage Institute, Academy of Architecture Amsterdam. Presented research results in well-known international conferences and exhibitions such as the International Forum of Urbanism and the Venice Architecture Biennale. International Publications on Architectural Theories. The academic research subjects are: Village within the City, Miura DDC facades, and so on

Research interests
建築は自然環境などに対処し人の自由な活動を可能にするシェルターであり,都市は集合体としてこれを組織する母体である.しかし,都市は時に人の力では対処できない大きな力(Force Majeure)を生み出し,人の活動を制限する.城中村を題材にした中国都市研究では,急成長する都市で建築が歪んだ空間の使い方を具体化した様を研究した.戦後のアメリカ都市は郊外住宅が一連の空間現象を生み出し,日本においては地方都市が東京都市圏形成の影響下にある.上原研究室では高齢化・少子化・人口減少に直面した地方都市の10年後の姿を[地方都市X]と呼び,この姿をリサーチバイデザインで研究する.10年後には建築意匠研究の総体として地方都市の姿を検証する枠組みである.
