Research interests
現存する既知生物種の過半数を占める昆虫類は,実にさまざまな環境に適応し,繁栄を遂げています.この驚異的な適応能力の秘密は,昆虫体内に共生する特殊な代謝機能を持つ微生物です.共生微生物が栄養に乏しい餌から栄養素を合成・供給することで,昆虫は生存・繁殖することができるのです.また,共生微生物の中には,生存には必須ではないものの,昆虫の自然環境への適応に重要な役割を担っているものも存在します.私たちは,この“内部共生現象"の分子基盤の解明や,共生機能阻害による新規害虫防除法の開発に取り組んでいます.
