Research biography
The major focus of my research is directed toward the discovery of an "anti-austerity strategy" based on anticancer agents. These agents are useful for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, for which there is no reliable treatment at present. Pancreatic cancers are clinically hypovascular and have inherent tolerance to nutrition starvation. Elimination of this tolerance is a new "Antiausterity strategy" in anticancer drug discovery. For Prospective Graduate Students
We welcome motivated students who wish to pursue careers in natural product chemistry, drug discovery, and drug development. State-of-the-art facilities are available in our lab to conduct advanced research in natural product chemistry, chemical biology, and molecular biology. Each researcher will master the art of isolation and identification of bioactive natural compounds, structure elucidation using the most advanced computer-assisted Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy technologies, and advanced computational calculations (ECD and NMR). Our laboratory has established a unique NMR strategy based on a chemical biology approach to understand the underlying mechanisms of cancer cells, metabolomes, drug actions, and biomarker discovery. In addition, we investigate the mechanism of action of anticancer drugs against cell survival pathways, with particular emphasis on the PI3K/Akt/mTOR/autophagy pathways.
Our lab has extensive cross-disciplinary scientific collaborations with national and international groups. We welcome enthusiastic students who dream of achieving the highest level of pharmaceutical science, natural medicine, drug discovery, and contributing to better health in human society. We have an excellent research and learning environment and can develop new skills and ideas. Every undergraduate and graduate student in our laboratory can contribute sufficiently to publishing a paper in an international journal with their name as the first author.
